A Donegal school is hoping one of their mini companies will go all the way to Europe.
The Transition year students of Gairmscoil Chú Uladh, Ballinamore have been busy again this year in their Minicompany class. The class founded four companies this year:
Canbháis Chú Uladh, specialising in order made canvass paintings.
This company was under the direction of Cait Ní Ghradaigh, Hannah Ní Chuillin, Maria Ní Ghallchóir, Jason Ó Mhurú, Kyle Ó Docartaigh and Seosamh Ruck.
Kit-Co, specialising in Flu survival kits. This company was under the direction of Chloe Ní Charthaigh, Amy Ní hEarcáin Nic an Ultaigh, Sorcha Little, Collete Ní Chnaimhsí, Ruth Ní Chionnaigh, Hannah Ní Thiomanaí agus Aine Nic Mhonagail.
Countopoly, a board game based on the game Monopoly but focusing on Donegal and other Irish Counties.
This company was under the direction of Dylan Ó Gallachóir, Daryl Mac Thomais and Gavin Mac Stiofáin.
The Peg People with Peg-It, multi-use peg organisers.
This company was under the direction of Grainne Nic Mheanman, Niamh Ní Cheallaigh, Shauna Ní Mhearlaigh, Lisa Ní Mhaoileagáin, Caitlín De Brún, Caolán Ó Fríl, Seamus Ó Laifeartaigh agus Liam Ó Braonáin
All of whom participated in the Junior Achievements Gaeltacht Competition last Friday 8th of March which took place in Pobalscoil Gaoth Dobhair.
There were 13 companies competing to get through to the Quarter Finals and only 2 places available. Canbháis Chú Uladh caused quite a discussion between the judges, who said they felt that the students Hannah Ní Chuillin and Cait Ní Ghradaigh had quite a flare for art and that the company could not leave without being highly commended for their Art work.
But it was to be the Peg People that would rise to the top and be awarded joint first place with Pobalscoil Gaoth Dobhair to go through to the Quarter Finals which will take place in the Sligo Institute of Technology on Thursday the 21st and if successful here will go on the semi-final in Dublin where one winner will go on to represent Ireland in Europe.
The Peg People also received 3rd place in the County Enterprise Board Competition which took place in the Mount Errigal Hotel on Thursday the 7th of March where they were competing against 34 other companies in their category.
The Staff & Students of Gairmscoil Chú Uladh would like to take the opportunity to wish the Peg People every success next Thursday at the Junior Achievement Quarter Final.
