EXPERIMENTAL HARPS LACK WINNING FORMULA AGAINST MERVUE

With the ghost given up on league honours or promotion hopes, Peter Hutton experimented with his starting line-up against Mervue Utd at Finn Park.finn harps logo

With four games left and no chance of a play-off place, the Finn Harps boss gave a number of players a chance.

But only the former Derry City player will know what insight he got from tonight’s non-eventful encounter as Mervue ground out a 2-0 win.

A number of players including Jordan Duffy and Marty Owens, who wouldn’t normally be in the shake-down for a starting eleven, got the nod.

The game was only five minutes old when the Galway side went away in fortunate circumstances.

Jason Molloy cut on from the left wing and his deflected shot deceived Ciaran Gallagher to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

The lively Paul McVeigh almost got Harps back on level terms on 12 minutes when his curler brought a fine save from Conor O’Malley.

What started off as a lively enough counter soon fizzled off for the remainder of the half.

In the second half Michael Funston had a 20 yard effort easily saved while Michael Duffy should have doubled his side’s advantage but blazed over from close range.

Ryan Manning did manage to grab that second goal for Mervue when he drilled home from Molloy’s cross in the 74th minute.

It was the last real action of a game which lived up to the bill of it being a non-event for ether side.

Tragic Conor Boyle’s mum has paid a loving tribute to her courageous son.

Conor will be retweeting in heaven says his mum.

Conor will be retweeting in heaven says his mum.

Heartbroken Sheila Boyle posted a message on Facebook in which she thanked everyone for supporting her son and family over the past two weeks.

Sheila said the 18 year old Loughanure teenager will be keeping in touch with everyone he has left behind in his own unique way.

“He will be sitting in heaven this evening looking down to see how many likes he got on Facebook and how many re-tweets he got on Twitter,” she said.

Sheila and husband Hugh have stayed beside Conor’s bedside in hospital since a car crash plunged him into a coma two weeks ago in London.

Sheila said “Sadly this morning our precious son Conor Boyle lost the biggest battle of his life . From the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank everybody for their support and prayers over the last two weeks. We would also like to thank our family and friends who were with us at Addenbrokes hospital in Cambridge.”

The mum of six boys paid a special thanks to Megan Greene from Maghery who is a staff nurse at the hospital saying Megan was their rock throughout these dark days.

She said the family are astonished and overwhelmed the way the local community, county and beyond has pulled together to offer their support and well wishes through social media, phone calls and texts.

Sheila said Conor excelled in every sport he participated in, mainly boxing , GAA and soccer.

“He never bothered with basketball as he wasn’t the biggest man in the world but he had the biggest heart.”

His loving mum said Conor was “caring, full of life, confident and funny.”

And she recalled “In recent weeks he even had a 64 year old work colleague doing press-up for his own entertainment , which he recorded and posted on his Facebook page.

“If you were lucky enough to have met Conor you would know why he was so well liked and left a lasting impression on everybody, young or old he would find something in common.”

She admitted that they are now broken hearted and life will never be the same without their beloved son.

“Conor’s favourite saying was “some man me” and that you were. From the proudest parents in the world. Hugh and Sheila.”

Hundreds of people have left messages of sympathy and support for Conor Boyle and his family.

Tragic Conor

Tragic Conor

One such message was this poem left by a friend of Conor’s.

We asked the young person permission to use her words which she has agreed to.

She stressed that she was not best friends with Conor but knew him from afar – but enough to pay this beautiful tribute to him.

Such style and such swag but you didn’t brag

Your sparkling smile could make life so worthwhile,

Your twinkling eyes made the ladies all sigh,

So cool you could rule all the kids in the school

A star on the pitch, a star in the ring, a star on the stage- a star to all age.

A savvy young chap the sky was your limit, Harry Styles who? When Conor Boyle was”innit”..

A beauty to watch and a beauty inside, it’s no wonder your friends reach so far and wide.

Close friends you have many and they want you to know that they stand by your side as you brave this big ride.

So dance with the angels and sing songs of joy

You’ll make heaven look cool with your swagger like Jagger.

Turn your face to the sun and leave the shadows behind

You fought til the end take a rest now young friend.”

SADISTIC THIEVES BATTER ELDERLY FARMER IN SICKENING ATTACK AT HIS HOME

BurglarsDD NEWS: SADISTIC thieves battered and taunted an elderly Donegal farmer in his home before stealing his shotgun and a small sum of cash.

The sickening incident – described by neighbours as ‘evil’ – left the victim badly shaken.

But the man, who is 76, is so fiercely independent he didn’t bother calling Gardaí to report the incident.

Instead a friend calling to check on him a day later raised the alarm after seeing the serious injuries suffered by the victim.

Friends say the pensioner was battered and beaten and taunted by at least four men late on Thursday night.

“They dragged him out of his home, beat him and then went through his home before leaving with tools, a shotgun and some money,” said one friend.

The thieves spent several minutes in his home just outside Falcarragh looking for the valuables and cash.

“It means there is some lunatic out there now with a gun. That has left everyone frightened,” said one neighbour.

The friend who found the farmer called Gardaí on Friday evening, 24 hours after the incident.

It’s understood Gardaí have launched a major investigation into the attack and spent yesterday taking a statement from the victim.

They have also carried out follow-up inquiries.

Another local man told us: “We need more guards here; more guards out searching for this gang.

“It’s a disgrace what has happened to an absolutely innocent gentleman.”

ST EUNAN’S EDGE OUT FOUR MASTERS IN U-12 COUNTY HURLING FINAL

St. Eunans U12A Hurling Final 2013 TEAM 1Match report for the U12 Hurling County A Final

The U12 Hurling County A Final was held in O’Donnell park last Thursday night between St Eunan’s and Four Masters.

Conditions were wet underfoot with a blustery gale blowing across the pitch but nothing could diminish the excellent hurling game and skills that was on show. Both teams had met earlier in the league with St Eunan’s only edging Four Masters out, so the numerous supporters were expecting a good game and they were not disappointed.

St Eunan’s opened the scoring with a fine point taken by Shane O’Donnell. However, from the puck out, Leo Dunphy broke through the midfield to level the score after 4 minutes of play. Both teams traded points and after 11 minutes the score was level.

St Eunan’s Cian Harkin and Shane O’Donnell gradually started to get the better of the midfield area and were able to drop balls into the Four Masters square.

The Four Masters backs Katie O Donnell and Ciaran McGroary dealt expertly with a lot of the pressure but eventually the St Eunan’s forward, Rory Doherty scored the opening goal on the 13th minute.

This sustained period of pressure led to St Eunan’s goals by Oisin Randles and Shane O Donnell.

However Four Masters proved why they were in the final with superb runs and shots on the St Eunan’s goals. However, both goalkeeper Russel Forde and backs Eoin Dowling and Andrew O’Connor were able to clear the area and deliver pin point passes to their brilliant half back line of Marty Duffy and Gavin Forde and start the attack the other direction.

However, Four Masters Matthew Laffan scored an unstoppable goal on the stroke of half time. Half time score was 5-2 to 1-2 to St Eunan’s.

The second half started with the same intensity and passion from both teams and both traded goals within the first 10 minutes.

Four Masters point from Leo Dunphy on the 12th min proved to be their last score. Great battling by forward Ger Duffy allowed Paul O Donnell to take a great point under pressure and Shane O Donnell added a few more scores to his tally. St Eunans forward subs Michael O’Donnell, Oran Brogan, Matthew Noonan and Mark Mulholland kept the pressure on Four Masters with fresh legs. Late in the game subs Conor Whoriskey, Peter McGee, Ed Grant and Kieran Tobin all played a pivotal role in keeping the Four Masters threat at bay.

St Eunan’s won in the end 7-6 to 2 -3 to retain the U12 A Final cup that they won in 2012. However the score does not reflect the exciting and thrilling contest that was on show and no doubt that these athletes will be meeting each other again in the future.

St Eunans: Russell Forde, Andrew O’Connor, Eoin Dowling, Gavin Forde, Marty Duffy, Shane O’Donnell, Cian Harkin, Paul O’Donnell, Oisin Randles, Ger Duffy, Rory Doherty, Subs used: Michael O’Donnell, Matthew Noonan, Ed Grant, Conor Whoriskey, Peter McGee, Oran Brogan, Mark Mulholland, Kieran Tobin, subs not used: Jack Doherty, Sam Grant, James O’Donnell, Liam Hannigan, James McLaughlin, Conor Horgan

Cockhill Celtic claimed the 4 Lanterns Ulster Senior title for 2013 after a hard fought victory over second placed Drumkeen Utd on Sunday, their 3-2 victory giving them a second double in 4 years. Drumkeen needed a win to take control of their destiny with both sides still to face Kildrum and they certainly brought the game to Cockhill taking an early lead before a penalty and two late goals put the Inishowen men in the driving seat and despite a late flurry that saw the visitors pull back a goal, they couldn’t find the equaliser that would have pushed the destination of the title to the final game of the season.

Cockhill Are Champions

Cockhill Celtic 3

Drumkeen Utd. 2

Cockhill claimed the 2013 Ulster Senior League title after a 3-2 victory over second placed Drumkeen United at a sun baked Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds on Sunday last. The home side needed the win to secure the title but the nerves played a part in this tense battle. Drumkeen, the visitors, settled the better and Seamus Nani Friel was an outlet right from the off when he forced a corner in the opening minute, Gavin Cullen was strong to punch the ball clear after it dropped inside the six yard box. Drumkeen then were forced into a substitute in the 9th minute when Chris Kyle was replaced by Mark Marley. Mickey Rogers side took the lead on 21 minutes when their latest signing Ronan Coyle got in down the right channel and after Cullen saved his initial shot he poked the ball goal wards but after Cockhill’s Kieran McLaughlin cleared the ball it bounced off the helpless Johnny Havlin into the empty net. Cockhill responded well and on 28 minutes Garbhain Friel curled a delightful ball from the right to the back post that just eluded Aiden O’Donnell’s outstretched leg with the keeper stranded. As the half ticked by Cockhill started to create more openings and Drumkeen’s keeper McCauley had to be smart to save from Aiden O’Donnell after a deep cross from James ‘Jimmy’ Bradley. Cockhill then were awarded a penalty on 39 minutes when Aiden O’Donnell was clipped by the outstretched leg of McCauley as he pounced on a week back pass from the Drumkeen rearguard. The ref issued only a yellow card as the ball was heading away from goal even though the keeper was the last man. Cockhill’s Friel held his nerve to side foot the ball powerfully past the keepers’ left hand to level the game at 1-1. Cockhill then had to replace O’Donnell with Mark Moran after O’Donnell failed to recover from the challenge by keeper McCauley

Cockhill’s Moran had the first chance off the second period when he picked up the ball on the right skipped past Bonner in the left back area but his low drive fizzed past the far post to the keeper’s right. As the game entered the final quarter it was evenly balanced with Drumkeen having nothing to lose they started to play more open and stretch the game more. Oisin McColgan got caught under the ball for the home side and when Richie Moore picked up the ball he played a great low cross into the box behind the Cockhill defence but Carlin was late to anticipate. Cockhill opened up the visitors defence on 72 minutes but both Liam O’Donnell & Friel had efforts blocked in quick succession. Cockhill took the lead on 75 minutes when Malachy McDermott produced the games first bit of magic. Moran, who had looked lively since his introduction late in the first half, fizzed the ball at McDermott to the left of the Drumkeen Box 25 yards from goal, McDermott shifted the ball onto his right foot and sent a pile driver to the roof of the net much to the delight of the home bench & support. Cockhill went 3-1 up on 86 minutes when Moran made space on the edge of the area to shoot powerfully low into the net from 18 yards. This sparked real celebrations on the pitch as the Cockhill dugout emptied to celebrate on the pitch with the players. When the play resumed the Hoops retreated and defended deep knowing that they had a two goal cushion to see them over the line. That two goal cushion was reduced to one when Seamus ‘Nani’ Friel showed the other moment of magic in the game by curling a superb 25 yard free up and over the wall into the top corner. Drumkeen pushed for the leveller but really deep down knew that they really need a win to have the best chance to claim the title, as the visitors pushed and committed more men forward Friel had a chance to kill the game by squaring the ball but he delayed his pass and the chance was gone. The last chance arrived in the fourth minute off added on time but Eunan Kelly’s header under pressure was high and wide. The referee blew his whistle following the kick out and the celebrations began for the Cockhill Celtic FC players and faithful. Cockhill add the league title to the League Cup from last week making it their second Double in 4 years. Well done to all involved with the club.

Finn Harps Res.        6

Swilly Rovers                       4

It was a Sunday morning goal fest at Finn Park as both teams approached this USL league game with what can only be described as an adventurous approach.

The game was barely five minutes old when Dylan Hegarty, switched to a midfield role, burst through the middle before releasing the impressive Oisin Duffy on the right and Duffy swung in a perfect cross for the inrushing Hegarty to slot home. On 12 minutes Swilly stunned the home side by scoring again, Duffy finishing following some sloppy Harps defending from a Lawrence Toland corner. It was the Ramelton men who were next to concede following a corner kick , McGinty crossing for Derry man Emmet Coyle to make it 2-1. Ten minutes later and Rovers regained their two goal advantage when Blaine Curtis finished from the rebound after Rodgers did well to stop a fantastic Toland volley. Despite defensive frailties Harps continued their attacking approach with some very tidy possession football on view. Referee Stephen Toner awarded the home side a penalty just before the break which McGinty dispatched with confidence to round off a breathless first half.

Both teams came out from the restart intent on continuing the emphasis on attack. Harps were first to draw blood when Buncrana man Johnny Bonnar slotted home to make it all even.

Harps went ahead for the first time in the match on 69 minutes Bonnar finishing with an excellent curling shot from 20 yards. The home side might have felt they were in the ascendency at this point but a determined young Swilly side were having none of it – Marty Boyce rising to head home and incredibly it was 4-4.

McGinty broke through to put Harps in front again on 70 minutes and sub Harkin increased the lead shortly before the final whistle.

Credit to management and players on both sides for serving up an entertaining spectacle for the early risers on Sunday morning.

The family are hoping to know later today when Conor can be brought home to Donegal.

A huge outpouring of grief has covered the Rosses and wider area since Conor’s passing.

Details of his funeral have not yet been made but it is expected to be one of the largest in the area for many years.

We will bring you the details of Conor’s funeral when they are made public by his family.

DMRT carry out a rescue at Horn Head.

Donegal Mountain Rescue Team are a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year voluntary emergency response team providing emergency search and rescue response in extreme terrain and mountain conditions throughout the entire county.

Due to the significant increase in the number of callouts experienced in the last two years the team are now seeking to recruit enthusiastic individuals interested in working as part of the team to achieve high standards of casualty care in the Donegal’s mountains.

The commitment

On roads less travelled

We are seeking people with a strong interest in mountaineering activities, a high level of commitment, be reasonably fit, possess hill walking / climbing experience, navigation and hill skills as well as a commitment to participating in regular team training and callouts.

Recruitment to the emergency response team is open to people over 18 years of age living within one hour of the county’s mountainous areas.

It takes approx 1-2 years to progress from being a probationary member to qualifying as a full operational member. The Donegal Mountain Rescue training programme covers four core areas namely, mountain operations, search and rescue operations, casualty care, and operations co-ordination.

We would also be interested in hearing from members of the public that may be interested in assisting us with the various other duties involved in running a voluntary mountain emergency response team including organising fundraising days and events, general administration, vehicle maintenance etc.

The reward

Mountain rescue is a rich cauldron of activities encompassing specialised training, rescue missions, fundraising, sometimes mundane committee duties and even TV appearances for various Rescue programmes.

It’s sometimes wet, sometimes dry, sometimes stretched, sometimes a muscle acher, sometimes exhilarating, sometimes tired but always lively and fulfilling.

More than anything else, it is deeply rewarding when the mission is over and the casualty is safely recovered and reunited with his friends or family. On those occasions the ensuing smiles and tears are makes it all so very worthwhile to be an Active Responder with Donegal Mountain Rescue Team.

You can see here, or on the net, some pictures of the team in action and we can guarantee you we’ll show you corners of Donegal that will take your breath away as below!

For more information www.donegalmrt.ie and for an application pack please send an e-mail to secretary@donegalmrt.ie, keep up to date with us on Facebook www.facebook.com/DonegalMRT.

FRUIT OF THE LOOM’S LOSSES CONTINUE TO RISE

It was once one of the biggest employers in Co Donegal.

Fruit of the Loom were once a major employer in Donegal

Fruit of the Loom were once a major employer in Donegal

But it has now been revealed that not event the phased transfer of Fruit of the Loom’s Irish operation to its lower cost Morocco base has not ended the firm’s problems.

New figures show that losses at the Fruit of the Loom International Ltd increased more than 12 fold last year to €31.6m.

Fruit of the Loom is owned by Warren Buffett’s conglomerate, Berkshire Hathaway.

At its peak, the US-owned clothing manufacturer employed 3,500 people in six Irish plants including Raphoe and Buncrana.

However, in 2004 the company announced that it would shut its remaining two factories with the loss of 650 jobs in Donegal and Derry before the end of 2009.

The company today retains a small operation at Buncrana and the directors’ report shows that the firm made the loss in spite of revenues climbing by just under 10% from €204m to €224m in the 12 months to the end of December last.

The loss of €31.6m last year follows losses of €2.5m in 2011.

According to the directors’ report “2012 proved to be an exceptionally difficult trading year for the European group. With our inventories loaded with prior year inflated cotton costs, together with a continuing abnormal cotton price level and the inability to push through into the market place via higher selling prices, meant the bulk was absorbed through the profit and loss as a cost”.

The directors add: “This is in addition to the need to reduce price year on year to attempt to capture whatever demand was available within a very depressed market place, created a very unstable gross margin position which was impacted significantly.”

The Irish Examiner reports that year-on-year volumes came in higher by 25%, with revenues up 10%, but gross margin was down by 132% at a loss of €7.5m.

Selling, distribution and administration costs were down just over €2m, resulting in a significant loss of €31.7m.

On the firm’s future developments, the directors state “the European business continues to face a very uncertain market place.”

The directors add that “various initiatives are under way to ensure the future success of the European group”.

The losses last year resulted in the firm having accumulated losses of €203.1m at the end of December last. The firm’s shareholder deficit totalled €98m.

The accounts show that the firm’s parent, Fruit of the Loom, has advanced €262m to the firm.

The figures show that the Irish-based entity employs 27 with staff costs last year totalling €3.1m.

GAA NEWS: AODH RUADH SECURE DIVISION THREE STATUS WITH VICTORY OVER CARNDONAGH

Aodh Ruadh GAA News

Monthly club meeting

The monthly meeting of the club executive takes place this Thursday at 8.30pm in Aras Aoidh Ruadh. All committee members are asked to attend.

Football

Aodh Ruadh definitively secured division three status for 2014 with an impressive away performance against Carndonagh.

Ballyshannon had the breeze at the backs in the first half, but despite competing well, only held a two point advantage at the break, 0-7 to 0-5 the scoreline.

Despite facing into the wind, Aodh Ruadh opened strongly in the second period and an early goal from Anthony Boyle shook the home sides resolve, allowing the Ernesiders to assert their authority from there on in.

A second goal from David Dolan ended the match as a contest.

This was a badly needed win in tricky circumstances and it took a solid team performance to deliver the two points. Peter Boyle was impeccable between the sticks and received good cover from Ciron Whoriskey, ably assisted by Damien Cleary.

Conor Patton, Kieran Keown and Anthony Boyle all worked tirelessly, as did Gary Carty when introduced as a sub.

Around the centre of the field, Kerry Ryan contested well, while David Dolan did a magnificent job of winning first phase ball.

Up front David McGurrin gave another fine display as did Brian Roper on his introduction. We have pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

Aodh Ruadh return to league action this Saturday when they host Downings in Father Tierney Park. The reserve game throws in at 4.45pm and is followed by the senior game at 6pm.

The under 16s championship play-off game with Naomh Columba has finally been refixed for this Wednesday, 25th September under lights in Ardara.

Throw in is at 7pm, Ian Molloy to ref.

Everyone knows the old saying about a game of two halves and that is exactly what it was for the Aodh Ruadh under 13s who were at home last Saturday to Saint Naul’s.

In another absolute thriller of a match the Ballyshannon boys got straight down to business taking a huge lead with scores from captain Dylan Gallagher (1-2), Evan McTernan (2-0), Michael McKenna (3-3), John Connor McGarrigle (0-1), Owen Doherty (0-1) and a cracker of a goal from a very difficult angle by corner forward Caolán Dolan (1-0).

After an outstanding performance the score stood at 5-5 to 1-3 in favour of the Aodh Ruadh men at the half time whistle.

The second half started with Saint Naul’s coming back very strong and they closed the gap very quick with no reply coming from the Aodh Ruadh lads for the first ten minutes.

Vital decisions were going against the lads and the loss of Dylan Gallagher did not help matters.

However the home team dug deep and a touch of brilliance came from Evan McTernan at full forward who made a beautiful high catch and buried the ball in the back of the net for a goal that sealed the win for the Ernesiders.

The final whistle saw a final score line of Aodh Ruadh 7-7 Saint Naul’s 5-9 and the homesters earn a hard fought four point win.

Outstanding performances on the day came from Mark Gallagher in goals who saved a penalty in the dying minutes of the game, Pauric Keenaghan, Odhran Kennedy, Aaron Peach, Cianán Roper and Senan Rooney who were all great in defence.

That win puts the lads into the league semi-final, most likely against Naomh Conaill, and we await confirmation of fixture details.

Under 13 training continues on Wednesdays at 4.30pm to 5.45pm.

Hurling

On Thursday night last the under 12s and under 16s contested their county finals in the Centre of Excellence in Convoy.

The under 16s renewed their rivalry with Buncrana. These two clubs have contested county finals for the last number of years at all levels and would be the leading clubs in underage hurling in Donegal.

On a very blustery evening Aodh Ruadh were very slow to get out of the blocks and seemed to lack self belief as they found themselves 3-1 to no score down after ten minutes.

They finally started to play the hurling they’re capable of and the clawed their way back into the game and for the rest of the first half they were on top and went in four points down at half time 3-2 to 1-4.

Buncrana started the second half with renewed vigour and got an early goal and a point, it was nip and tuck for most of the second half but Buncrana’s ability to score goals always left them the likely winner.

Credit to the lads, they never gave up and the exertions of their first half comeback caught up with them as Buncrana got two late goals to put a gloss on the final score line of 6-9 to 2-6.

The slow start was to prove very costly in this hard fought game where every challenge was ferociously contested.

This small dedicated squad put in a tremendous effort all year and their discipline and dedication were a credit to themselves their families and the club.

Best wishes to Darragh Cleary and Conal Sweeney who suffered bad injuries in this game, it’s hoped the lads will make a speedy recovery and will be back in action soon.

Thanks to all the parents who supported the lads all year and who drove them to games throughout the year, your support is much appreciated by all associated with the squad.

Highlighting the great work being done in underage hurling in both clubs, the under 12B final was contested by Aodh Ruadh and Buncrana.

In contrast to the under 16s, the under 12s got off to a great start with the aid of the breeze and showed no nerves to race into an early lead.

They held the Buncrana lads scoreless in the first half and scored three very nice points themselves to leave the half time score 0-3 to 0-0.

Similar to the under 16 game, the Buncrana boys had the ability to score goals at vital times in the second half.

Two goals within a minute midway through the second half turned the game in their favour.

This very young Aodh Ruadh team, which contained four under 10s never gave up and played some lovely hurling in probably their best performance of the year, but as the saying goes goals win matches and Buncrana won a great game 3-1 to 0-6.

Like the under 16s the parents of the under 12s have been a great help all year and drove to games whenever asked, and always gave great support to the lads in their games both home and away.

This squad improved as the year progressed and it’s hoped that they will continue to improve in 2014.

On Sunday morning a very young minor team, essentially our under 16s plus three minors, headed to Eyrecourt in Galway for two great challenge games with Meelick/Eyrecourt and Killimor minor teams, both these teams are from the hurling heartlands of East Galway, Meelick/Eyrecourt played in the Minor A championship this year in Galway and Killimor are playing in the B semi final shortly.

The Aodh Ruadh lads, while losing both games showed some great skill and were well able to compete with these teams and improved the longer the games went on.

Both Galway clubs were very impressed by the lads determination and their commitment to hurling.

It was a great experience for the lads to play at this level and hopefully the Galway lads will travel to Ballyshannon in the coming seasons.

This Sunday we host the annual Aodh Ó Dálaigh under 12 tournament. This tournament is in existence since 1982 and this year we have eight teams confirmed for the event including, for the first time, an inter-county development squad from Cavan.

Play begins on what is sure to be a busy day of hurling at 11am.

Ladies

We have a solid fixture for the minors. They are playing Four Masters this Sunday, 29th September in Father Tierney Park at 12.30pm.

Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm.

Well done to the under 12s who saved their best till last with great performances against Four Masters, Saint Naul’s and Bundoran out at the blitz in Bundoran on Friday evening. Thanks to Bundoran for a well run blitz.

Well done and thanks also to the coaches Bernie Maguire and Grace Meade. The squad that travelled to Bundoran were: Caoimhe Keon, Shona Slevin, Cáit Gillespie, Sorcha McGonigle, Caitlin McLaughlin, Erin McGowan, Bridín Maguire, Siofra Hughes, Sorcha Sweeny, Caoimhe Sheerin, Siobhan Gallagher, Amy Gallagher, Katie Peach, Grace McCaffrey and Dearhla McGuckin.

We have a picture of the team up on the Aodh Ruadh CLG Facebook page.

Training for under 10s and under 8s continues this Saturday afternoon from 1pm to 2pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

Fantasy race for Sam

After a great win by the Dubs in the All-Ireland final, it is Joe Gillespie’s M Team who have come out on top in the Fantasy Race for Sam 2013.

He was greatly helped by Dublin beating Mayo. His final tally of 333 points has give him the coveted title for this year.

In second place was Caoimhín MacAoidh (An Giotoz) with 310 points followed closely by Tommy McCafferty (Foaling Around) on 308.

In joint fourth was long time leader Sean McKenna (McKenna’s Machine) and Gráinne McIntyre (Stephens Ramblers) on 287 points.

The race at the bottom has long since been settled with Bobby Murphy (Chunky Chips) finishing in last place with 36 points.

A huge thank you goes out to all the entrants and their aptly named teams, and also to the sellers.

The final leader board is available on aodhruadh.org and also in Owen Roe’s Bar, the Bridgend and Ballybookies.
