Singer Daniel O’Donnell is raking in the cash but says money means nothing to him.Daniel Late Late

The Kincasslagh star, who recently lost his beloved mum Julia, made a profit of €3M last year.

He has now declared he will take a break from the music industry in February 2015.

He has now sold an incredible 10 million records but said of his financial success “I’ve never sung to make money. I just sing because I love it and the money is just a by-product of what I do.”

Beautiful Joshua Coyle was playing at his home at Crieve Glebe near Bomany when he was struck by a van at around 6.45pm.

The 22 month old toddler was rushed to Letterkenny general Hospital but was pronounced dad a short time later.

Little Joshua was the son of Alex Coyle and Susanna Mangan.

The couple and their other children are being comforted at their home.

A full investigation into the incident is being carried out by a Garda Forensic Team who were at the house this morning.

Local county councillor Gerry McMonagle said the tragedy has numbed the local community.

“Any loss of life in such circumstances in tragic but when it happens to a young child it is even more painful.

“As a grandfather myself I was shocked when I heard this news and my heart goes out to the parents and relatives of this little boy,” he said.

A post mortem will take place on little Joshua today and his remains are due to be taken back to his parent’s home to be waked.

MARY LOU McDONALD TO ADDRESS SINN FEIN’S TEMPLEDOUGLAS COMMEMORATION

Donegal Sinn Fein County Council Whip, Cllr Mick Quinn, has called on the people of Donegal to support the annual Templedouglas commemoration tomorrow (Sunday).

Sinn Fein's Mick Quinn

Sinn Fein’s Mick Quinn

Cllr Quinn said that it was vitally important that we remember our patriot dead and renew our efforts to achieve Irish unity.

The commemoration will be addressed by Mary Lou McDonald and starts at 3pm

Commenting on the event, Cllr Quinn said he was encouraging all republicans in Donegal to come along to the annual commemoration.

“It is crucial that we as republicans remember those who have given their lives for Ireland over the last century and recommit ourselves to the struggle for which they died.

“The huge vote that the Scottish independence movement received last week shows the appetite that there is on these islands to end the union and for countries to have complete control over our own affairs. It is now time for a border poll in Ireland so we can have a meaningful debate on the benefits of reunification.

‘Our commemoration has grown bigger year on year and I am confident that this year will be our biggest yet. As such I would extend an invitation to everyone in Donegal to attend.’

LYIT RANKED 16TH OUT OF TOP 21 UNIVERSITIES BY SUNDAY TIMES

Letterkenny Institute of Technology has been ranked 16th out of a list of Ireland’s top 21 universities – down two places from its position last year.

The LYIT campus

The LYIT campus

Trinity College Dublin (TCD) is the top ranked university in The Sunday Times Good University Guide league table, published tomorrow, September 28.

The 13th annual edition of the guide sees Trinity maintain its position as the best of Ireland’s seven universities, while Dublin IT is the top Institute of Technology, ranking eighth overall.

The information is contained in The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015, a 16-page supplement published free with the newspaper tomorrow.

LYIT shows a graduate employment rate of 88%, Firsts/2:1s of 56% and a completion rate of 83% of courses.

The rankings of all of the top eight institutions remain unchanged, although within the six performance indicators which make up an institution’s ranking there is considerable movement year on year with sharp variations in performance between colleges.

Amongst institutions included in the league table, the graduate employment ranking is topped by the University of Limerick – The Sunday Times University of the Year – jointly with IT Tallaght with just 5% of graduates still seeking work nine months after leaving. This compares to a rate almost four times higher (18%) at Athlone IT.

Trinity’s unemployment rate of 6% ranks the university fifth on this measure, but TCD builds up an unassailable lead in the overall table with a strong performance across all measures. It recruits the best qualified students, who amass an average 508 Leaving Certificate points each. They go on to achieve more firsts and 2:1s (74%) than students at any other institution.

University College Cork tops the research rankings earning more from research per head of academic staff than any other institution. Competitive research funding of more than €78m amounts to more than €111,800 per head of staff, comfortably more than both University College Dublin (€104,855) and TCD (€97,853) in second and third place respectively.

Dublin IT has comfortably the best completion rate of any third level institution in Ireland with 92% of students who enrolled in 2008 graduating by summer 2013. The next best performance sees 85% of students complete their studies at Galway-Mayo IT – the Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the Year – and IT Carlow, last year’s IT of the Year winner. IT Sligo has the lowest completion rate, standing at just 70%.

The overall table is ranked on six performance measures: the average Leaving Certificate points needed for entry, course completion rates, the proportion of top degrees awarded, graduate job prospects, the income generated from research and staffing levels. Three of the indicators are shown in the table above.

The Sunday Times Good University Guide is now in its 13th year of publication. It provides the definitive rankings for Irish third-level institutions, together with profiles of each institution and a view from students of what it is like to study there. It also contains the first full listing of 2015 courses and the first round entry points needed to access these courses from the recently-completed 2014 admissions cycle. The online edition available at www.thesundaytimes.ie/gooduniversityguide features fully searchable tables on each of the measures on which institutions are ranked, together with profiles of each.

Colm McFadden netted two goals against Bundoran this evening in their opening fixture of the Donegal SFC.

St Michaels were in devastating form this evening in their Donegal SFC clash with Bundoran.

St Michaels ran out convincing winners on a comprehensive score-line of 4-10 to 0-06.

Goals in either half from Colm McFadden ensured a comfortable win for Tony Wilkinson’s side.

Christy Toye and Michael Langan were the other goal scorers for St Michael’s who delivered an accomplished performance in difficult conditions at The Bridge.

The score-line would suggest St. Michaels had it all their own way, but in truth the first-half was a closely fought game.

Bundoran had the advantage of the breeze, but in truth were unable to take advantage of it and only posted four first-half points.

St. Michaels also found scores hard to come by in the opening period, but a penalty from Colm McFadden and great team move involving Martin McElhinney, Ciaran Gallagher and Oisin Langan was finished off brilliantly by Michael Langan.

Those goals ensured St Michaels led 2-01 to 0-04 at the interval.

In the second-half St. Michaels were absolutely clinical and ruthless in their play, and outscored Bundoran 2-09 to 0-02.

St. Michaels were fantastic in the second-half, and with players from both Kilcar and Glenswilly in attendance at the game, St. Michaels have certainly gave them food for thought ahead of their forthcoming clashes with both teams in the next couple of weeks.

KILLYBEGS SNATCH DRAMATIC LATE DRAW WITH GAOTH DOBHAIR

Killybegs earned a draw against Gaoth Dobhair thanks to a late score from Brendan McGuire.

Killybegs earned a draw against Gaoth Dobhair thanks to a late score from Brendan McGuire.

Killybegs just love championship football, they’ve struggled all year in the league, but tonight they delivered an excellent performance to earn a well-deserved draw against Gaoth Dobhair.

A late point from the lively Brendan McGuire ensured Killybegs earned a share of the spoils.

Gaoth Dobhair were hot favourites coming into this fixture, in contrast Killybegs have been decimated by emigration and have really struggled in Division Two this season.

However, as the old saying goes, form counts for nothing when championship comes round, and so it proved to be.

Killybegs took the game to Gaoth Dobhair early on and Hugh McFadden and Brendan McGuire excelled for the hosts.

Points from Hugh McFadden, Brendan Boyle and McGuire gave them a good early platform to build on and when the fisherman netted midway through the first-half, they were in the driving seat.

Gaoth Dobhair rallied and reeled off three points, and went in at the break trailing by three points.

Half-time score Killybegs 1-03 Gaoth Dobhair 0-03.

Scores were hard to come by, Gaoth Dobhair registered two points in the second half to get within a point, but a Hugh McFadden free stretched it back out to two.

However, there was late drama, Gaoth Dobhair netted with a few minutes to go to lead by a point and it looked like they’d snatched an unlikely victory.

But up stepped McGuire, who was a thorn in the Gaoth Dobhair defence all day to level the game.

Final score Killybegs 1-05 Gaoth Dobhair 1-05

DONEGAL SFC: BRAVE NAOMH MUIRE GIVE NAOMH CONAILL A FRIGHT

Paul 'The Yank' Boyle was sent off as Naomh Muire were narrowly defeated upon their return to the Donegal SFC against Naomh Conaill.

Paul ‘The Yank’ Boyle was sent off as Naomh Muire were narrowly defeated on their return to the Donegal SFC against Naomh Conaill.

Naomh Muire returned to senior championship action for the first time since 2000 and gave a great account of themselves pushing Naomh Conaill all the way in their Donegal SFC clash at The Banks.

Naomh Muire won the Intermediate championship last season and in doing so ensured a return to senior championship football.

However, Naomh Conaill were expected to power past the challenge of the men from the Lower Rosses, but that didn’t materialize as a young Naomh Muire side delivered an accomplished performance.

Naomh Conaill in truth were glad to hear the final whistle in the end up as 14 man Naomh Muire rallied late on with a succession of scores.

In what was an absolutely bruising championship game, scores were hard to come by in the opening half.

Dara White scored a couple of lovely points in the opening period, but a spate of points from Dermot Molloy and Dara Gallagher gave Naomh Conaill a three point advantage at the break.

Half time score Naomh Muire 0-03 Naomh Conaill 0-06

The second-half followed a similar theme to the first, it was physical, and there were bruising challenges exchanged by both sides all over the pitch.

However, Naomh Muire were dealt a hammer blow ten minutes into the second-half when Paul ‘The Yank’ Boyle was sent off.

The talismanic captain is a crucial player for Naomh Muire, and Naomh Conaill used that one man advantage to stretch their lead out to six midway through the second half.

Naomh Conaill looked like they would cruise to victory, but a spirited fight-back from Naomh Muire almost earned them a draw.

Two cracking scores from Padraig McCafferty reduced the deficit to four 0-12 to 0-08.

Then scores from Shaun ‘The Yank’ Boyle and Harry Harden reduced the arrears to just two with a few minutes left.

Naomh Muire continued to put Naomh Conaill on the back foot, but the Glenties men showed their experience at this level, and just managed to get over the line.

They’ll be delighted with the win, but they were made to fight for it by a spirited, well-organised and determined Naomh Muire side.

Final score – Naomh Muire 0-10 Naomh Conaill 0-12

Next up for Naomh Muire is St. Eunans in O’Donnell Park, but they’ll look forward to that challenge after proving they can hold their own with the best in the Donegal SFC.

Naomh Conaill now face Malin in their next Donegal SFC fixture next weekend.

MAC CUMHAILLS EARN THE BRAGGING RIGHTS WITH DERBY WIN OVER GLENFIN

Sean MacCumhaillsMac Cumhaills earned an excellent five-point victory over bitter local rivals Glenfin earlier this evening in their opening fixture of the Donegal SFC.

As predicted the game was going to be close, tough and tense, and it was extremely physical throughout with both sides battling to take control of the match.

Ultimately in the end up, Mac Cumhaills had that little bit more quality up front that gave them the edge over a Glenfin side full of endeavour and heart.

Games between these two sides are always important but a clash in the SFC brings added significance and pressure.

It was a very close opening half with both sides trading scores, but two wonderful points from Gerard Ward edged the hosts in front at half-time.

Half-time score Glenfin 0-06 Mac Cumhaills 0-05

Ten minutes into the second-half and the scores were tied at 0-08 apiece, but Glenfin failed to score in the final twenty minutes and that ultimately was the reason they lost the game.

A super score from Stephen Mulligan edged the Ballybofey men in front, and after that score they registered four unanswered points.

They won the game by five points and were deserving winners in the end.

Final score Glenfin 0-08 Mac Cumhaills 0-13.

Tragic Joshua Coyle who was killed on Friday.

The parish priest of St Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny was speaking in the aftermath of the freak accident which has plunged the town into mourning.

The 22 month old died after he was struck by a van at his home at Crieve Glebe near Bomany on Friday evening.

Fr Kelly said “It’s an awful tragedy and an awful accident to happen….so simple the way it happened.

“The whole community is just stunned; talking to people in the town, they’re just in shock. I suppose every one of us knows it could have been any of our families.”

Parish priest of St.Eunan’s Cathedral, Fr Kelly added that people should remember such an accident can so easily happen.

“Any of us who have wee nieces or nephews or brothers and sisters, we all know how simple and easy it is – they run out and can be so excited.

“The wee boy just didn’t have a chance,” he added.

A post mortem took place on beautiful Joshua’s remains yesterday.

His parents Alex Coyle and Suzanna Mangan are today preparing to say a final goodbye to the little boy who lit up their lives.

Ciaran McGinley scored two excellent points in an impressive display for Kilcar in their win over Glenswilly.

Ciaran McGinley scored two excellent points in an impressive display for Kilcar in their win over Glenswilly.

Kilcar have issued a real statement of intent after they recorded an excellent away victory against current Donegal SFC holders Glenswilly.

In what was a tough, physical and absorbing championship encounter it was Kilcar who managed to eventually come out on top.

The game was a low scoring affair, but it was an absorbing contest played at huge intensity throughout, the large crowd in attendance certainly got their money’s worth.

It was Glenswilly who started the brighter and they raced into a three point lead after fifteen minutes.

It took Kilcar seventeen minutes to register their opening score through Mark Sweeney.

It was a great goal opportunity for Sweeney but he blasted his effort over the bar.

Mark McHugh quickly added a second, before Patrick McBrearty levelled matters from a free.

Glenswilly were dealt a hammer blow midway through the opening half when goalkeeper Phillip O’Donnell was forced off through injury.

With no recognized goalkeeper on the bench, it was left to club stalwart Gerard McGrenara to deputize for the injured O’Donnell.

It ended all level at three points apiece at half-time.

Kilcar raced into an early second-half lead when Ciaran McGinley pointed, but Michael Murphy quickly hit back to level.

Kilcar then reeled off three unanswered scores to get a real foothold in the game.

Patrick McBrearty, Conor Doherty and Ciaran McGinley all fired over to give Kilcar a three point lead.

Glenswilly hit back with scores from Gary McFadden and Caolan McFadden, but scores from McBrearty and Eoin McHugh stretched their lead back out to three points.

Glenswilly tried gamely to get back into it, and Neil Gallagher had a goal effort flash just wide.

But Kilcar held on for a famous win, and their performance has backed up why their the bookmakers favourites to win the Donegal SFC.

Final score Glenswilly 0-06 Kilcar 0-09

Glenswilly will look to get their campaign back on track next weekend in Bundoran.

Next up for Kilcar is St. Michaels in Towney next weekend, and the winner of that match would be guaranteed a place in the last eight, it should be a cracking encounter.

Rory Kavanagh scored a goal and was superb throughout St. Eunans victory over Malin in the Donegal SFC this afternoon.

Rory Kavanagh scored a goal and was superb throughout St. Eunans victory over Malin in the Donegal SFC this afternoon.

St. Eunan’s delivered a very impressive second-half performance to earn a comfortable victory over Malin.

Malin stunned the Letterkenny men last year and knocked them out of the Donegal SFC at the quarter-final stage.

There was no repeat of that upset today, although Malin did give Maxi Curran’s side a fright with two first-half goals.

Brendan McLaughlin and Paul McLaughlin fired home two clinical finished to give Malin a huge boost.

St. Eunans also lost the inspirational figure of John Haran to a black card after just two minutes.

But after the concession of both goals, St. Eunans responded very well on both occasions and went in at the interval level.

Half-time score Malin 2-02 St. Eunans 0-08

In the second-half St.Eunans stepped it up a notch and delivered a fantastic performance and played at a tempo that Malin couldn’t live with.

Rory Kavanagh was instrumental and his goal in the second period was the real killer blow as Eunans went on to record an easy win.

Malin only scored four times in the second-half and they had no answers to a St. Eunans team that looked focused, hungry and determined.

Final score Malin 2-06 St. Eunans 1-17.

The Green Machine: Conor Greene helped Dungloe to a crucial victory over Termon in the Donegal SFC. Pic by Mary Bonner.

Dungloe continued their unbeaten run this season by recording an excellent win over Termon at Rosses Park in the Donegal SFC earlier this afternoon.

Dungloe won the Division Two title and went the entire league campaign unbeaten, they took that form with them into the championship and earned a crucial win against Termon.

Conor Greene was outstanding for the hosts and he was ably assisted by Adrian Sweeney who was as lethal as ever.

Dungloe opened the scoring through Adrian Sweeney and Greene, but the visitors posted three points in-a-row to take the lead.

Two points from Daire McDaid and one from Christy Connaghan edged Termon ahead.

Dungloe responded through Adam Neely to level up the game and that’s how it stayed until the break.

Dungloe upped the tempo in the second-half and really took a stranglehold of the match.

With Greene and Sweeney again the chief tormentors for Tony Boyle’s Dungloe side.

They edged Dungloe out to lead by six with ten minutes to go.

Termon rallied though through the outstanding Daire McDaid for Termon.

He scored three points unanswered to bring Termon back to within a score of Dungloe, but Dungloe used their experience to run down the clock and secure the win.

It was a tremendous individual display from McDaid who scored seven of Termon’s total of eight points.

Next up for Dungloe is a derby match with local rivals Gaoth Dobhair next Sunday in Magheragallon.

Termon host Killybegs next weekend in desperate need of a result to keep their Donegal SFC hopes alive.

Old Orchard Saturday Division One

Arranmore United 2 Glenea United Reserves 2

Glenea started the brighter of the two sides with the aid of a breeze at their backs and had the Arranmore defence on the back foot from the off. Arranmore gradually worked their way into the game and took the lead on 25 minutes when Daniel O’ Donnell hit a low shot that found the corner of the Glenea net. Arranmore doubled their lead on 35 minutes when Conor Proctor latched onto a through ball and finished into the bottom corner. The second half began the same as the first with Glenea applying pressure on the Arranmore defence and they pulled a goal back after a crossfield ball was finished well on the half volley. Shortly afterwards Glenea got an equaliser when Dean Mc Carry burst through the home defence and slotted home. The game peetered out after this with neither side creating any clear cut chances. A team effort from both sides. Referee: Brian O Kane

Orchard FC 8 St Catherines Reserves 1

Orchard United took on St. Catherine’s Reserves from Killybegs and had the pressure on form the kick off. After only seven minutes Sean McLaughlin of Orchard hit the back of the net. Further goals from Niall Bonner, Eddie Moore, Michael Doherty, Kissy Mc Laughlin and a Hat-Trick from Sean Mc Laughlin completed the route for the Letterkenny based outfit. Referee: Barry Hunter.

Erne Wanderers 2 Glenree United Reserves 1

Erne Wanderers hosted Glenree United on Saturday at the lakeside in perfect conditions. The game was fiercely contested from the first minute but the home side got the breakthrough on eight minutes when Ryan O’ Brien broke the offside trap and finished at the second attempt. The hosts created numerous chances before halftime but couldn’t force a second. Wanderers were hit with a sucker punch 5 minutes into the second half when Glenree levelled through Kevin Martin. Wanderers hit the front again with 10 minutes left on the clock when McNulty did really well to win a free in the inside left position 25 yards out. Liam Travers hit the free kick over the wall and into the net. Referee: Seamus Mc Groary.

Glencar Inn Saturday Division Two

Cranford United Reserves 3 Drumoghill FC Reserves 2

Drumoghill took an early lead and Cranford responded with Ryan McDaid scoring 5 minutes before half time. The first 20 minutes of the second half was a very open affair with both team creating chances and the game being played at a high tempo. Jay Dee Alawiye won and converted a penalty to put the home side ahead. With 10 minutes left Drumoghill’s flying trout hooked himself a screamer to level up the game. Joe Gallagher poached a late winner to give the Cranford the points. Good team performance from Drumoghill who were unlucky not to at least take a point from the game. Best for Cranford Jay Dee Alawiye, Odhran Coll and Seamie Carr.

Gweedore United Reserves 4 Mulroy Celtic 2

This game was played in wet and windy conditions in Gweedore. Mulroy took the lead after 3 minutes with a tap in from three yards . Gweedore hit straight back direct from a corner from Marty Doohan before taking the lead through a good Stephen O’ Donnell finish. Mulroy levelled at 2-2 when they were awarded a penalty. Conditions were difficult but Stephen O’ Donnell grabbed a second and Gweedore united’s third just before half time. Stephen O’ Donnell then grabbed the hat-trick and the points for Gweedore 15 minutes into the second half. Referee: Michael Mulhern

FAI Junior Cup Saturday

Glencar Celtic 3 Carndonagh FC 1

This game was played in excellent conditions at the flagpole. With both of these teams champions of their respective leagues there was a point to be proven by both. The game started slowly with Glencar keeping the ball well along the backline without any real penetration and the Inishowen champions. Glencar grew in confidence and got their passing game going and were rewarded for their patience after a superb through ball form Steven Browne found Michael Molloy who finished well for his third goal in two games to put Glencar one up. The Letterkenny men eventually got their second of the game ten minutes before the break. Great strength from Mark Graham to hold off his man and pull the ball down before he then threaded the ball into Browne who finished well into the bottom corner.

Carndonagh got rewarded for all their pressure and scored with nine minutes left on the clock. The Letterkenny men were by no means in the mood to lie down and throw away their two goal cushion and in the dying minutes substitute Jerome Burke broke free down the left flank beat his man and slotted past the keeper to the delight of the Glencar men who continue their fine start to the season. Referee: Ed Moore

Tullyvinney Rovers 1 Curragh Athletic 5

A rampant Curragh side comprehensively defeated an understrength Tullyvinney Rovers team in Crossroads Park on Saturday afternoon. In great conditions for football a good local derby crowd turned up for the occasion. Four goals in the first half put the game to bed for the Killygordon side through Dan O’Brien, two from Calvin Bradley and one from Colm Melaugh. Tullyvinney came out with renewed belief in the second half and fought hard to get back into the game, Dan Square McNulty scoring his second penalty of the season after Paul Carlin was taken down in the Curragh box. The game was over as a contest when Oisin McConnell saw his long downfield pass somehow find it’s way into the net via an awkward bounce to make it 5-1 to the visiting side. Best for Curragh, Neil Lloyd and Calvin Bradley. Team performance from Tullyvinney.

Brian McCormick Sports Premier Division

St Catherines 2 Donegal Town 1

On five minutes Donegal Town took the lead when Daniel Mc Hugh rounded O’ Hara and he crossed the ball into the Saints’ box where a Donegal player tucked the ball into the Saints’ net. On fourteen minutes, after the ball was cleared by the Donegal defence, Shane O’ Rourke from 25 yards hit an unstoppable volley and it dipped over the Donegal keeper’s head to level the scores. Level at the break. The second half started with both teams looking to get ahead. In the fifty ninth minute Conor O’ Rourke crossed the ball into the Donegal penalty area and somehow everybody missed it and it went into the bottom corner of the Donegal net to make it2-1 to the Saints. Best for St Catherine’s was Christopher Murrin. Best for Donegal was JP Byrne.

CT Ball Division Two

Dunlewy Celtic 1 Letterbarrow Celtic 0

This game was very lively with both sides attacking right from the start but it remained scoreless at half time. The second half started well for the visitors with James Mc Groary going close but it was the home side who took the lead when a Patrick Cannon cross was converted. The visitors had most of the ball in the second half as they looked to get on level terms but the home side held on to the end. Best for Dunlewy were Patrick Cannon, John Cannon and Shaun Mc Garvey.

FAI Junior Cup Sunday

Raphoe Town 1 Milford United 3

Raphoe Town welcomed Premier Division kingpins Milford United on what was a fine day for football. Milford started this game well and on 5 minutes took the lead when a Raphoe Town player headed past his own keeper Paul Carberry while being put under pressure by the Milford attacker. They increased their lead five minutes later when Raphoe dwelled too long on the ball and were punished by a clinical finish by the Milford forward . Milford must have thought this was going to be a walk in the park after this but this young Raphoe team is made of stern stuff and pinned the Premier Division team back for the rest of the half. Keelin Gillen and Lee Smith were causing havoc down the wings and after some fantastic football Gillen scored with a cool finish after a great ball from Smyth. Raphoe continued to dominate in the second half with sub Jamie Gallagher and the outstanding Oliver Quinn having chances to draw level. Milford secured the win on 80 minutes when they scored a fine goal from the edge of the box. Referee: Gerry Gallagher

Gweedore Celtic 2 Ramelton Mariners 1

A Declan Doherty goal five minutes from the end of extra time settled this cup tie at An Screaban. The home team went ahead on twenty minutes when an Eamonn Curran free kick was headed home by Paul Rua McBride. A Ramelton effort on thirty minutes came off the crossbar. Gweedore had a good spell early in the second half but failed to capitalise on several good chances. Shane Mc Clafferty hit the post and Kieran Mc Ginley’s header was cleared off the line. Fifteen minutes into the second half the visitors drew level with Corey Mc Cahill volleyed home from the edge of the box. Despite the best efforts of both teams there was no further scoring in normal time. Best for Gweedore were Brendan Devine, Kevin Friel and Paul Rua McBride. A team performance by Ramelton. Referee : Joe McHugh

Kilmacrennan Celtic 3 Clones Town 1

Kilmacrennan came out on top in this hotly contested game and move into the next round. Kilmac entered the game with a depleted squad but a good team performance saw them through. Kilmac took the lead after 30 minutes when Gary Gorman volleyed into the bottom corner following a Timmy Burke through ball. They went two up on 70 minutes when Seamie Peoples broke down the left wing before crossing for Timmy Burke to knock home. With ten minutes remaining Clones got one back before a late goal from Gary Gorman sealed the tie.

Ballybofey United 4 Fintown Harps AFC 3

This was surely one of the most entertaining ties of the round with the lead changing hands twice in an eventful second half. Ballybofey dominated the opening half with Ryan Kelly giving them an early lead. Reliant on scraps and breakaways Fintown drew level on twenty six minutes when Shan Mc Millan blasted home from inside the box. Mark Griffin then went on a mazy run which ended when his wicked cross was turned into his own net by a Fintown defender giving the home side a half time advantage.

Ciaran Thompson re-levelled the match for Fintown before Mc Millan was again on target much to the disbelief of the home side who really should have had the tie won at this stage. Ballybofey regained parity when the lively Griffin scored and he did so again with the clock running down to assure the Twin Towns outfit have their name in the hat for the next round. Referee: Con Mc Laughlin.

Deele Harps 0 Gweedore United 2

Deele welcomed Gweedore United to The Athletic Grounds for this Cup clash. A much changed Deele side due to a long injury list gave a very good account of themselves and were unfortunate to lose out. In an evenly contested match chances were limited with the defences on top. The game changed in the 65th minute when a mix up in the Deele rearguard led to a free on the edge of the box but Willie Curran saved well. Deele lost their way after this and Gweedore took the lead on 70 minutes when a corner took a number of deflections before substitute Francis Gallagher nodded home on the line. Deele pressed for the equaliser but in doing so left gaps and an unchallenged cross into the box eluded the Deele defence and super sub Francis Gallagher headed his 2nd goal with the final whistle imminent.

Bonagee United 2 Culdaff FC 4

Culdaff went ahead on twelve minutes when Darren Mullarkey, wide on the right, cut inside the defender and hammered home from the edge of the box. Bonagee levelled the match on thirty five minutes when a good through ball from Sean Crossan to Noel O’ Donnell saw the striker turn the defender and his shot found the bottom corner of the net. O’ Donnell put the home side ahead three minutes later when Frank Mc Brearty put him through and he hammered home from just inside the box. Culdaff levelled the match on forty nine minutes when Niall Mc Laughlin headed home from a cross from the right by Niall Gordan. The big striker was causing the home defence a lot of problems in the air and got his second ten minutes later when he headed home a Darren Mullarkey cross from the left from ten yards. Both sides had half chances but both keepers dealt with poor finishing from both teams. Culdaff got the final goal of the game on seventy minutes when Darren Mullarkey wide on the right cut inside the defender and his strike from thirty yards flew right into the top corner of the net. Team effort by both sides. Referee: Paddy Duffy.

Keadue Rovers 0 Whitestrand United 3

Whitestrand are through to the next round of the FAI Junior Cup after this good victory over an understrength Keadue side at Central Park. Conditions were ideal for football and Keadue had the first chance on nine minutes. Following good work on the right wing, the ball fell to Aaron Boyle, who shot just wide of the left hand post. The home team remained slightly the better team until the twentieth minute however a misplaced pass in midfield led to Paddy Sheridan finding space and lobbing Keadue keeper Danny Rodgers for a fine finish. Whitestrand gained more of a foothold after the goal and in the twenty seventh minute they went two nil up. Following some good work in the build up the ball made its way to Kevin Mc Carry on the edge of the area and he turned and shot low to the corner of the net. Paul Lynch added a third for the visitors when he powerfully headed home midway through the second half. Best for Keadue Danny Rodgers and Chris Greene. Best for Whitestrand Sean Paul Gallagher and Paddy Sheridan. Referee: John Coyle

Drumoghill FC 7 Carrowmena FC 1

Drumoghill FC cruised through to the next round of the FAI Junior Cup with a polished performance against a young Carrowmena side. Despite the scoreline Carrowmena competed well and always tried to play the game the way it should be played but they were up against a Drumoghill team that were hungry for goals. Carrowmena actually opened the scoring through Aidan McLaughlin on 12minutes. McLaughlin sprinted onto a through ball, rounded McCauley and slotted home in style. The lead though was short lived when Pajo Rafferty equalised on 18 minutes just before his strike partner, Liam O’Donnell, put his side ahead. Both would go onto complete hat tricks to add to second half goals from Chris O’Donnell and Jason Flood ‎to complete the scoring. Referee: Kevin Logue.

Kildrum Tigers 5 Convoy Arsenal 4

Kildrum Tigers got their first win of the season today with a hard earned 5-4 victory over Convoy Arsenal. The Tigers got off to a sloppy start and found themselves a goal down after three minutes when they let Lee Guthrie in at the back post for a tap in. Kildrum got back on level terms straight away when William Lynch finished from the edge of the box after a Damian Crossan layoff. Kildrum went ahead after 25 minutes when Barry O’Donnell calmly finished from the penalty spot. Convoy got back on level terms on 37 minutes through Jonny Robb from the penalty spot when John Roulston brought down Guthrie. Kildrum went 3-2 up early in the second half when a Damian Crossan effort was misjudged by the Convoy keeper and ended up in the net. Convoy got back on level terms on 63 minutes through a fine Brolly strike from 18 yards. The Tigers struck the lead again on 73 minutes when a Brian Coll through ball was neatly finished by William Lynch. Kildrum got their fifth when Gareth Colhoun beat three men on the left hand side before squaring for William Lynch to complete his hat-trick. Convoy ensured a nervy end to game when they pulled one back with three minutes to go but the Tigers held on to progress into the next round of the FAI junior cup.

Castlefin Celtic 3 Glenea United 2

Castlefin took the lead after 15 minutes when PJ Mc Menamin’s long range pass from his own half found the head of Simon Mc Glinchey, who connected well to head the ball into the net. Castlefin should have doubled their lead on the half hour when Barry Tourish’s 20yard strike was well saved by Glenea keeper Joe Coll. Glenea’s best chance of the first half fell to Gavin Mc Glanaghey, his powerful strike bringing a great save from Castlefin keeper Anthony O’Hagan. Glenea started the second half the brighter finding the equaliser when Michael Barry beat the offside trap and calmly finished from 6 yards. Glenea took the lead in the 67th minute after putting the Castlefin defence under pressure, Gavin Mc Glanaghey heading home. Castlefin equalised on 75 minutes when Ian Ward won a penalty after he was fouled in the box. Ronan Tourish scored from the spot. It was Castlefin who got the final goal minutes from the end, Ian Wards excellent pass from the halfway line finding Barry Tourish on the edge of the box. Tourish made no mistake with his finish, chipping the keeper. Referee: Marty Quinn. Best for Castlefin: Barry Tourish and Anthony O’Hagan

Rathmullan Celtic 2 Lagan Harps 1

A brace from Rathmullan Celtic midfield maestro Chris McBride proved enough to see Paddy Sheridan’s Hoops progress to the next round of the FAI Junior Cup over a resolute Lagan Harps side who played their part in an entertaining cup clash with Jerome Gibson registering for the Lagansiders at the Flagpole. It was McBride who broke the deadlock on the quarter hour mark with a thunderous free kick from 30 yards soaring into the top corner giving Harps’ keeper Tony Blake no chance. The Lagansiders came back into the tie on 40 minutes when Gibson had the simplest of tap in’s from six yards out following a Lagan corner which was not dealt with by the Hoops defence to leave it all square at half time. On eighty minutes Connolly passed inside to Curran and the experienced striker played in Mc Bride who nutmegged the Lagan defender before calmly finishing with a low strike into the bottom right hand corner. Referee: Paddy Mc Naught
