BREAKING NEWS: MET Eireann has issued an Orange weather alert for Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan overnight.

“There will be rain, sleet and snow mix will give some lying snow accumulations especially on hills but also at some lower levels,” says the national forecaster.

“There will be blizzards and drifting in the strong winds.”

The warning has been in place since 9pm this evening and runs until 3am on Sunday.

The Orange warning means people should be prepared for disruption.

The BBC in the North is predicting significant snowfall over the next few days, with Inishowen and north and north-eastern Donegal affected.

However Derry, Antrim and Down seem set for 10cms of snow on lower levels and 30cms of snow on hills like the Glenshane Pass.

Met Eireann has also issued a Yellow gale warning
