This is the moment Donegal county councillor Brendan Byrne got his hands on his €50K lotto cheque.
The former Donegal Mayor won the cash on Tuesday night’s Euromillions draw.
The Fianna Fail politician was one of two Irish players who pocketed €49,796 in the draw, matching all five main numbers – but failing to get up either of the two lucky star numbers.
Champagne was the order of the day as Brendan celebrated in style at lotto headquarters with wife Carmel in Dublin.
The councillor bought his ticket in the Holmes Spar Texaco station just outside Donegal Town which is owned by Thomas Dunleavy.
“I’m a very happy man,” said Cllr Byrne.
“It was my daughter Silvia’s birthday on St Patrick’s Day so I spent €9 on a Quick Pick. I couldn’t believe it when I checked the numbers on Wednesday,” he said.
“I wouldn’t do the lotto that often, so I’m happy I did it this time!”
