Can’t Pay Won’t Pay have hit back at County Councillors who have called for the removal of anti-Property Tax signs around the county and have said that their campaign intends erecting even more signs over the coming weeks.signs

Last week Cllrs. Padraig Doherty, Terence Slowey and David Alcorn raised the issue at the Glenties Electoral Area meeting of the Council.

“We make no apology for fighting against this unjust tax. We want to get a strong message out to the government and political parties that we will not pay the Property Tax.

“We want the average citizen to feel confident that in standing up against the the tax, that they are not alone, but part of a huge movement of ordinary people around the state who are prepared to defy the government.” said Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig, spokesperson for Can’t Pay Won’t Pay.

“With all the problems we have in our county of mass unemployment, the emigration of our young people, the decimation of rural communities, it is beyond belief that these cllrs. choose to attack those who are standing up for their communities, rather than the government which has caused the problems. These councillors should remember that they were elected to represent the people and not to maximise their travel expenses.”

“More signs will be erected over the coming weeks as we step up our campaign to defeat the Property Tax. Indeed we ask communities which do not have signs in their areas to contact us and we will provide them with stencils for producing the signs as well as practical advice. We need the message to go out to all areas that we can defeat this tax through non-payment.”
