Tadhg's remains are taken from St Eunan's Cathedral

Tadhg’s remains are taken from St Eunan’s Cathedral

On Saturday we said farewell to one of Letterkenny’s greatest citizens and a long standing member of our club, Cllr. Tadhg Culbert.

A former hurler with the club and a native of Tipperary, Tadhg supported St. Eunan’s through thick and thin and was a generous sponsor down through the years. He was a great character and a good friend to many within the club.

He seemed to have a smile on his face at all times, whether it was in the Post Office, a Town Council meeting, enjoying a pint, a chance meeting on the Main St. or enjoying a match at O’Donnell Park or Leckview.

He had a genuine interest in people and doing what he could to help them no matter what their background. He would have been thrilled with his final journey down the High Rd. and Main St. to see the esteem in which he was held by all the people of Letterkenny.

His remains were carried in turn by Letterkenny Town Council, Fianna Fáil, St. Eunan’s, Letterkenny Rovers, Post Office Counter Staff, Postmen and finally by some of his close friends. The Cathedral was overflowing as the crowds gathered to say a fond farewell to an outstanding citizen who came from Tipperary some 40 years ago. To Hilda, Lisa and Andrew and his wide circle of family and friends we extend our deepest sympathies. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
