Dinny McGinley confirmed today that the Department of Gaeltacht office on the Gaoth Dobhair Business Park will in the future be dealing with aspects of language planning schemes and support.
A new sub-department will be set up in the office to deal with language planning, a requirement under the Gaeltacht Act 2012.
Responsibility for schemes, grants and other areas will in the future be handled by Údarás na Gaeltachta – these had been the responsibility of the Dept of gaeltacht office.
Until the changeover happens, the public can still deal with the Dept office for all grant/scheme matters.
The Minister confirmed that NO jobs will be lost as a result of this chnage and that extra staff would be provided in the Department office to help with language planning if necessary.
There had been unrest this week that jobs in the Roinn na Gaeltachta office would be lost or staff forced to transfer to the Department headquarters in na Forbacha Galway, if all matters concerning public works schemes and grants be centralised elsewhere.
