ATHLETICS NEWS: ROSSES AC ATHLETE AIDAN GILLESPIE WINS LONG JUMP CHAMPIONSHIP

Juvenile training for Track and Field continues in Carrickfinn on Wednesday and Friday for all age groups from 2005 upwards from 6 to 7pm.

Fit4Life group in Carrickfinn on Monday and Wednesday at the earlier time of 6pm. Walkers and new members welcome. Coaches: Elise Gillespie and Sinead Diver.

Sprint and long jump training on in Carrickfinn on Wednesday evening from 6pm – 7pm for 14 and older age group with coach Aidan Gillespie.

The Rosses Primary School Sports will be held in Carrickfinn on Friday May 17th starting at 10:30am.

Ulster children’s games and u12 and u13 championships take place on the 2nd June in Finn Valley.

Closing date with club is Thursday night 10th May latest so if you intend to compete please send confirmation by text to any coach at training on the Wednesday evening with details of the event you wish to compete in.

A large group of Rosses and Gweedore athletes took part in the North West Charity 10k Road Race and Walk in Letterkenny on Sunday last.

Some great runs on the back of hard training by all. There are pictures on the facebook page. Thanks to club captain Aidan Gillespie for all the organising and efforts towards this.

Well done to Aidan Gillespie who won the Long Jump at the Donegal Track and Field Ch’s in Letterkenny this evening. Aidan jumped 6.03m, his first time over 6 metres for quite a while and it augers well for him as he targets the Athletics Ireland Combined Events Ch’s in August.

Bridget Mc Dyer picked up two silver medals in the U-15 Shot Putt and U-17 Javelin.

The club is having a social night this Saturday night May 11th in Leo’s Tavern at 9pm. All club members and their partners, coaches and supporters are welcome!! Organiser Sinead Diver hopes to see a good turnout so see you all there.

Donegal Athletics Board in conjunction with Athletics Ireland is holding a Child Protection Workshop on Friday 17th may from 6:30 – 10pm in the Finn Valley Centre.

All volunteers working with children must do a child protection course every 3 years and be vetted by their club. If you are interested in doing this course please contact Sean McGinley or Ita Gallagher before 12th May.
