Danny McDaid at the track naming ceremony today in Letterkenny
IT RAINED and it rained and it rained – but nothing could dampen the incredible spirit at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny today as elite athletes gathered to honour the Donegal great Danny McDaid.
The track at the centre was named in his honour today, unveiled at a fantastic ceremony which was a curtain-raiser for a superb day’s athletics organised in its usual brilliant way by Letterkenny Athletic Club.
An attempt to break the 4-minute barrier for a mile at the track failed by just over a second….Joathan Kiplimo finished the race in 4.01.2.
But nothing could take away from a superb event, which was well-attended despite the weather.
Danny told Donegal Daily: “It was a superb day and I want to thank everyone who attended the event.
“It was a top class field and it was an honour for me; but it was especially an honour for my family.”
