GARDAI and the AA have issued warnings tonight to motorists after a day of torrential rain.

Roads in several areas are only passable with care.

Readers have warned of flooded roads – and dangerous driving by some motorists – in several areas of the county tonight.

The Port Road in Letterkenny has been flooded all day; as have roads in and around Lifford, Castlefin, Ramelton, Ballyshannon, Pettigo, Ballybofey, Convoy and Gaoth Dobhair.

Readers in and around Letterkenny have complained about motorists speeding though flood waters, causing problems for them.

A Garda spokesman told Donegal Daily: “Motorists approaching roads which are flooded must slow down and take care. It is dangerous for them and other motorists to speed in these sort of conditions.”

Farmers already suffering due to a poor spring – and a lack of fodder – have been forced to move livestock because of flooded fields.
