Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 2nd June
Féile na nGael/Féile na nÓg: Over the course of the next few weeks a huge push is needed to raise much needed funds or our underage teams, who will take part in the biggest national youth competitions in Ireland, namely the Féile na nÓg and Féile na nGael finals.
At the end of June, as part of Derry’s City of Culture Year, 4000 boys and girls teams from all over Ireland will travel to the Northwest to compete in the largest Gaelic football tournament of the year. Our club will be fielding both of our U14 Boys and Girls teams. The girls’ team will be hosting the team from Bailieborough, Co. Cavan while the boys will be hosting the team from Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
At the start of July our club Hurlers will travel to Killeedy, Co. Limerick to compete in the Hurling version namely the Féile na nGael. These are much coveted national titles but are also an ideal opportunity for friendships to be made with Gaels from other counties. At these festivals there is a huge effort made to encourage a social aspect and both the visiting clubs will bring with them a large number of travelling parents.
Starting this weekend the Boys and Girls will be collecting as part of the clubs annual sponsored walk to Fr. Hegarty’s Rock on the June bank holiday Monday, and we would ask all the community to try and support these boys and girls in whatever way they can over the next few weeks. If there is anyone in the wider GAA community here or abroad and would like to get involved in sponsoring some much needed equipment it would be greatly appreciated, you can contact any club member if you have any queries.
Féile Fundraising: The club would like to thank all those who supported the Meal Deal and the parents for making it possible. Thanks to Gallagher’s Butchers, Premier Meats, Grants Butchers, Doherty Roe Fruit and Vegetables, Doherty Roe Milk Vendors and Inishowen Independent for sponsorship. Next is the Sponsored walk to Father Hegarty’s Rock on Bank Holiday Monday followed on Tuesday by the GAA Shop. Open from Tuesday to Thursday, everyone is requested to leave and items of clothing to the clubhouse on Thursday and Friday of this week as we need to start getting ready for the shop to open, your support is appreciated.
