The 39 year old man killed in a traffic accident this morning has been named locally as Patrick ‘Packie’ Gildea.
Mr Gildea, who was from Glenties, died when his jeep struck a stone wall between Ballybofey and Fintown just before 9am.
Mr Gildea, a single man, was well-known and very respected in the Glenties and Fintown areas.
The victim had been returning from a friend’s house in Ballybofey when he lost control of his jeep in the townland of Glenmore.
He was rushed to Letterkenny General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post mortem will be carried out on the victim tomorrow morning before removal tomorrow.
His funeral will take place this Friday.
Mr Gildea is survived by his father Gerry, brothers John, Gerard and Joseph and sister Ann.
He is predeceased by his mother Sarah.
