Jason Quigley produced a stunning and devastating display to advance to the quarter finals of the European boxing championships in Minsk yesterday afternoon.  Jason Quigley

The Finn Valley middleweight defeated the Austrain Arbi Chakaev earning an unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

Quigley’s victory means that he has now won his last 23 fights a sensational record from the young man from Ballybofey.

Quigley’s stock has continued to rise following his victory over Olympic captain Darren ÓNeill earlier this year at the national championships in Dublin.

He will now face the German fighter Stefan Haertel who defeated O’Neill at last years Olympics in London.

Quigley will be guaranteed a least a bronze medal if he can defeat the German and advance to the semi finals of the championships.

Quigley said,

“Success breeds success and seeing the other lads do so well at the Olympics only makes you work harder to catch up with them.”

“You want to be successful like them and there success has had a domino effect for amatuer boxing in Ireland.”

“I’m just hoping with hard work that I can replicate the success that some of the lads have had.”
