Swilly Hit Fanad for Five
Swilly Rovers 5 Fanad Utd. 1
Victory for Swilly Rovers in this local derby played at a sun drenched Swilly Park. Swilly goalscorers were Kyle Black (2), Ronan Curtis (2) and James McCahill (1). Shane Buchanan replied for the youthful looking Fanad side.
Fanad went ahead on ten minutes when Buchanan, who looked very impressive, fired home from ten yards. Swilly created several good openings in the first half although their goalkeeper Gareth Wade had to be very alert to divert a fine Daire McDaid effort just wide.
Swilly upped the tempo somewhat in the second half, a Ronan Curtis penalty levelled matters after Mc Hugh was upended in the box.
On sixty minutes James Mc Cahill and Michael Mc Hugh combined well and Mc Hugh’s half volley was brilliantly saved by Jordan Mc Bride in the Fanad goal who replaced Sean Daffan who was sent off for a professional foul.
Ronan Curtis produced neat footwork to put Swilly ahead, Kyle Black scored twice and young James Mc Cahill completed the scoring in a one sided second half.

Cockhill Take Top Spot
Finn Harps Res. 1 Cockhill Celtic 4
Cockhill continued their impressive start to this season’s campaign, as they deservedly took away all three points from Finn Park in an entertaining USL Clash on Sunday.
Donal O’Brien’s men now lead the table and will take some stopping based on this performance.
A youthful Harps reserves side played some good football at times, but in the end were in no match for a well organised and very impressive Cockhill.
The away team drew first blood after just nine minutes. The Harps defence failed to deal with a Mark Moran free from the left and Derek Doherty headed passed Shaun Patton from Close range.
Doherty again came close two minutes later, when again Harps failed to clear but his drive went over by inches. Kevin McHugh started up front for the home side having missed Friday’s cup game against Wexford through suspension.
The Killea man showed great ability on 22 minutes turning inside two defenders but his shot hit the side netting.
However Harps were level a couple of minutes later and it was McHugh who equalised from the penalty spot.
Some neat interplay between Darragh Black and Johnny Bonnar led to Black being hauled down in the box, and the Harps front man made no mistake from the spot.
Bonner was again instrumental in setting up a Harps chance on 36 mins playing a great slide rule pass to McHugh, whose shot brought a fine save from Gavin Cullen.
At the other end, Moran who was proving a real threat down the left hand, delivered a pile driver towards the home goal drawing a fine stop from Sean Patton.
Harps had a great chance to go in front three minutes after half time, as a great Bonner pass put McHugh through on goal, but Cullen was down quickly to smother his shot. Harps were made to pay as Cockhill took the lead on 52 mins.
Following a through ball Aidan O’Donnell showed great strength as he held off two Harps defenders to finish past Patton to put Cockhill in front.
From there on, it was the visitors who created all the chances – O Donnell, Friel and Moran all coming close. Central defenders Flanagan and Mailey had both gone off injured for the home side, and the depleted Harps defence found a dominant Cockhill impossible to handle. Doherty got his second goal as again he got up to finish following a header back across the box.
The Harps youngsters battled hard to stay in the game, but any thoughts they had of a comeback were put paid to, when substitute Christy Mclaughlin scored to cap a fine victory for the Inishowen men.
Finn Harps: Patton, Lonergan, Colhoun, Mailey, Flanagan, Curran, O’Donnell, Bonnar, McHugh, Black, Doherty. Subs: McDaid, Kelly, Molyneux.
Cockhill Celtic: Cullen, McLaughlin, McColgan, Havelin, O’Conner, Doherty, Bradley, Liam O’Donnell, Aidan O’Donnell, Friel, Moran. Subs Christy McLaughlin, Conor Keddy.
