By Brendan O’Donnell, Lifford AC: The streets of Raphoe played host to tonight’s 5K road race, part of the Donegal Grand Prix Series.
130 athletes took to the start line in the market town in a race organised by the Raphoe Family Resource Centre and supported by Lifford Athletic Club.
Foyle Valley’s Keith Shiels was in blistering form again this week having followed up a win in St. Johnston last week with another win tonight in a course record time of 15.19.
Shiels was nearly a full minute ahead of his closest rival, Finn Valley’s Colin Watson who finished in second in 16.12, with City of Derry’s James Brown third in 16.20.
In the Ladies race, Lifford AC’s Leoni Cooke emerged victorious in a time of 21.35 followed by Martina Hegarty in second in a time of 21.48 with Finn Valley’s Gloria Donaghey third in 23.25.
After race prizes were generously sponsored by Coyle’s Centra in Raphoe.
