Clonmany songwriter Jame Wilson is preparing to showcase his song live at the O2 Arena in Dublin on August the 9th with the hope of his song being selected to be the next big “HIT”.
Jamie who is 41 and originally from Milton Keynes in England has been living in Donegal for the last 18 years and has been writing songs for over 25 years and is thrilled that his song has made it all the way down to the last 30 after the show received over 1,000 applications.
Well known producer Steve Lillywhite who is based in LA and has worked with artists such as U2, The Rolling Stones and The Pogues selected the 30 songs from the 1,000 that were sent in.
The six-part series sees songwriters showcasing their songs to well-established Irish artists in the hope that one of these artists will select their song to be their next big hit.
These artists will then produce their tracks and perform them in front of a live audience at Dublin’s O2 Arena.
The show is presented by Nicky Byrne and Aidan Power.
Jamie told Donegal Daily,
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have made it on to the live show especially when you consider just how many people applied for their material to be selected.
“It was great that Steve Lillywhite who is well respected in the music industry and has worked with a host of big names within the industry selected my song as one of the 30 for the programme.”
Jamie revealed he isn’t a fan of other reality music shows such as the Voice or the X Factor despite being encouraged by friends and family to apply to go on those shows to showcase his talents.
“I don’t like the X Factor or the Voice that’s not my style and I think it’s just manufactured to fit an image or a brand, friends had encouraged me to apply for them shows but I didn’t believe in them and stuck to my principles.”
“However this show has a different template and they are looking for the best song rather than an image and as a songwriter I had no excuse not to apply for this and I’m thrilled I’ve been selected.”
Jamie revealed the two artists he will be hoping to impress on the night are Johnny Logan and Duke Special.
“I think my song may appeal more to Johnny Logan it’s a ballad and I think he may appreciate my style of music more than Duke Special but it’s just absolutely fantastic to be involved at this latter stage of the competition and it would be great if my song was selected.”
“I love music and it’s a massive part of my life, I’m what you would call a bedroom musician but this is nice recognition for me and hopefully I can make it through.
Jamie will appear on “The Hit” on Friday the 9th of August.
