Dungloe have secured Senior championship football for 2014 following an impressive display in blustery conditions against a dogged Cloughaneely side this afternoon in the Senior championship relegation play-off in Magheragallon.
County panelist Adrian Hanlon was sprung from the bench at half-time and his contribution of 1-4 was the crucial factor in this game against two evenly matched sides.
Hanlon hasn’t seen much game time under McGuinness but sent out a reminder to the Glenties man that he still has plenty to offer.
Dungloe were boosted before the match when influential captain Noel McBride made it back in time from a two week holiday in Thailand.
McBride’s performance along with excellent displays from Mark Clerkin and Shaun Sharkey ensured that the Rosses men secured Senior football for 2014.
Playing with the aid of a breeze in the first half Cloughaneely were in the ascendancy but couldn’t convert their dominance in possession into scores.
Sean Mc Garvey was very lively inside for the Falcaragh men and scored some lovely points from play and from placed balls.
Dungloe against a very strong wind were economic in possession and Mark Clerkin scored two lovely points for the Rosses men.
Cloughaneely could have scored a goal midway through the first half but Denis Boyle seen his effort crash of the post.
The first half ended Cloughaneely 0-05 Dungloe 0-02.
Dungloe were the happier of the sides heading in at the break despite the fact they were trailing by three points as they knew they now had the massive advantage of playing with the wind.
Dungloe started the second half with intent and Raymond Sweeney, Mark Clerkin and Adrian Hanlon all registered scores early in the half to level the contest.
The turning point in this match was when Adrian Hanlon was awarded a penalty.
He dispatched the penalty with class and registered a further three points all of which came from play.
It was a real classy performance from the County panelist and his contribution was the defining factor in this match.
Cloughaneely battled gamely right to the death but Dungloe had to much for them in the end up.
