Eamon Dunphy has urged Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni to give Seamus Coleman the license to get forward and the freedom to express himself ahead of tonight’s friendly match against Wales in Cardiff.  Dunphy

Dunphy has been a long time admirer of the Killybegs man and believes Coleman is one of Ireland’s key players.

He said Coleman will play a crucial role for Ireland in next months crunch World Cup qualifier against Sweden in Dublin.

Dunphy said: “I saw Coleman interviewed recently and he looks like he is the shape of his life he really looks fit and trim and looks like a proper athlete.

“The thing about Coleman is he is very mature and grounded his introduction in to top level football is a lot different to those around him.

“He plied his trade in the League of Ireland with Sligo before making the switch, that’s a tough league but he worked hard to get were he is, but he doesn’t forget were he comes from and that’s important.  seamus

“I feel he is a wonderful young player and is now one of Ireland’s key players, I just wish Trappattoni would release the shackles on him and let him express himself like he does with his club.

“He is going to play a crucial role for Ireland next month against Sweden and for years to come, he’s a top player.”

Coleman is expected to start at full-back tonight in Cardiff, against a Wales side without the Real Madrid bound Gareth Bale.

In Coleman’s last outing for Ireland he was awarded the man of the match after a stunning performance against England at Wembley.
