The annual Finn Valley 5k has been a feature of life in the East Donegal area at christmas for 42 years growing in popularity year on year and at the recent launch of the 2013 event an invitation was once again extended to the community to come out run /jog /walk and if at all possible make it a festive family occassion.

It only seems like yesterday but its weeks away from being a year.

It’s the annual Finn Valley 5k going now all of 42 years and its out there once again on Stephens Day appealing to young and old to join in to participate for the craic, join with their friends /family to indeed involve themselves for the charity of their choice or alternatively simply turn up and have a go.

Close to 1000 hit the road 12 months ago so yes it would be encouraging to top that .Entry fee is as per recent years 10 euro Adult, 5 euro for a student or avail of a family entry at 25 euro.

The event has raised thousands of euro for particular charities over the years but now invites those involved to raise funds for their own particular cause if they so chose .Sponsor cards available if required at Centre.

The event has overcome difficult conditions weatherwise in 2010 and 2009 but in the best sense the show had to go on and go on it did adapting to the situation however difficult.

Fingers crossed for a reasonable day weather wise in 2013 and regardless their will be sufficient refreshments available after you complete the challenge

Its a 2pm start enter on the day right up to race time or better still hit the organising commmittee with an intention to participate on finnvalley1@gmail.com.

It’s a family day a day to meet up with friends home for the festive season and from the youngest to the oldest there is a welcome indeed the oldest walker in recent years was 84 so no excuses.

A community day in every sense.

See u there and while current world /Olympic champion Mo Farah ( England ) and Vivian Cheruiyot ( Kenya )hold the respective records its clearly a community event open to all young and not so young.

Updates will appear regularly on facebook /finn valley ac and on the dedicated Finn Valley ac St Stephens Day 5k facebook page on which we invite people to like/share
