Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher has welcomed plans to explore EU funding options to re-instate the bridge.

Cllr Gallagher said ”The estimated costs to re-instate this bridge is over €600,000, this seems to be to be an astronomical amount of money for a project of this size.

“I have asked the council to investigate alternative sources of funding to have this bridge re-instated, and I have received a commitment from Council that all avenues will be investigated, in the meantime I have asked that a costing be done to instate a bailey bridge, like what has been installed on the Fintown-Glenfin road.

“I have been assured that this will be done, and am hopeful that this measure if accepted by Council will allow access through this route for the people of Glenties.”

She added that it is unacceptable that this bridge has been down for over three years, and a solution has to be found to this situation without delay.
