THE BOSS of Donegal’s most famous wine shop has added some festive cheer to the bad budget news – he’s refusing to pass on a new tax hike on wine until after Christmas.
Richard Finney, owner of the Wine Buff in Letterkenny, is furious at Michael Noonan’s decision to slap an extra €1 tax on every bottle of wine.
The move came into effect at midnight last night.
And most places have already added it to your wine bill.
However Richard said: “It now means the vast majority of the cost of a bottle of wine is now tax.
“But I can’t pass that on to my customers coming up to Christmas. I’m going to try absorb the cost until after the festivities.
“So all prices stay the same until after Christmas on all wine and gift packs.”
