Former Finn Harps captain Packie Mailey is expected to re-join the club this season after holding talks with new manager Ollie Horgan about a possible return.
Mailey was a hugely popular player during his time at Harps and his performances led then manager James Gallagher to make him club captain.
Gallagher was axed during the 2011 season and made way for Felix Healy and Peter Hutton.
However, Mailey wasn’t a regular fixture under Healy and he became disillusioned with the set-up at that time.
He was invited to train with Derry City by former Harps manager Paul Hegarty at the start of the 2012 campaign but failed to win a contract with the Brandywell outfit.
He turned down the offer of a contract at Harps and decided to focus on Gaelic Games.
He played for Donegal in the 2013 Dr McKenna Cup competition against Fermanagh and Monaghan.
However he was axed from the squad that was finalised for the forthcoming Allianz National League and Ulster championship campaigns.
He continued to excel for St. Mary’s Convoy but he didn’t make a return to Soccer until Mickey Rodgers signed him for Drumkeen last summer.
Mailey was impressive during his short spell at Drumkeen but couldn’t help them to win the USL as they narrowly missed out on the title to eventual winners Cockhill Celtic.
It is believed Horgan has held talks with Mailey and it is believed he is keen to return to Finn Park following a two year sabbatical.
Mailey was a fans favourite during his spell and they will be hoping Horgan can secure the services of the powerful centre-half for the forthcoming 2014 First Division campaign.
Harps missed out on former Sligo Rovers striker Liam Martin who has opted to stay on at Ballinamallard Utd.
The Donegal Town native was close to signing for Harps but agreed to stay at Ballinamallard due to their participation in the Setanta Cup.
