GARDAÍ have reassured people who are victims of domestic abuse that they can travel beyond the 5km coronavirus travel restriction.

Last week, Women’s Aid reported a rise in the volume calls reporting domestic violence cases to its service.

Gardaí in Donegal say that the increase in calls being made within the county is ‘more or less in line’ wit the national average.

However, victims have bee urged to contact the relevant authorities.

A Garda spokesperson said: “If your home is not a safe place, we would encourage anyone to contact us.

“If you feel that you have to leave don’t be worried about the restrictions. We will support anyone who is a victim.”
