LYIT have been knocked out of the quarter finals of the All-Ireland plate competition on penalties after a dramatic game of football. LYIT

LYIT had taken an early lead through Dean McConnell but Inchicore quickly hit back to level the game up.

Both sides had chances to win it in normal time but neither were clinical enough to take it.

That pattern continued throughout extra time as both sides toiled to create opportunities as fatigue set in from both sides.

Both sides kept it tight and seemed content to play for penalties.

Shane Buchanan was first up in the shoot-out but his penalty was well saved.

Inchicore converted their first penalty to go 1-0 ahead.

Michael Doherty was next up for the IT and he scored a wonderful penalty as he chipped the ball delicately down the middle of the goal.

Inchicore then missed their next penalty to leave it all square after two penalties each.

Proinsias Forker then missed his penalty for LYIT but Inchicore failed to take advantage as they also missed.

Ryan Curran then converted for the LYIT but so did Inchicore to leave it 2-2 after eight penalties.

Derry City player Eoin Barrett was next up for the IT however he blazed his penalty high over the bar.

The Inchicore striker who was lively throughout the match confidently stepped up to send his side through 3-2 on penalties.

Niall McGonagle will be proud of his sides efforts but will no doubt be unhappy with referee Con McLaughlin who failed to award what looked like two stonewall penalties in the second half for LYIT.
