Carndonagh Musical Society have announced that rehearsals are underway for ‘Fiddler on The Roof.’

Casting is complete and rehearsals are well underway for Carndonagh Musical Society’s production of the legendary Broadway musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof.’

Following on from a hugely successful re production of Oliver in 2013, Aideen Doherty, Director, and Dr Helen Haughey, Musical Director, once again are guiding the cast, enabling them to create their characters and bring them to life on stage.

With instantly recognisable songs including If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset, To Life, Tradition and many more.

Fiddler on the Roof is a dramatic and sometimes humorous story that takes place in Russia before the revolution in a village called Anatevka.

This is the story of Tevye, a simple and loving milkman, who does everything he can to maintain his family and their religious traditions.

But despite his best efforts, with five strong-willed daughters, a loyal yet independent wife and an ever-changing society, the safety and stability of his old world is disappearing.

The role of Tevye the milkman will be played by newcomer Johnny Mc Eleney, who is no stranger himself to the entertainment business.

Golde, Tevye’s wife will be played by Karen Mc Laughlin previously seen in CMS production of Oliver.

As they bid to marry off their 3 eldest daughters Tzeitel (Claire Doherty), Hodel ( Danielle Cavanagh) and Chava (Lucy Lynott), the daughters together with suitors Lazar Wolfe (Pat Mc Laughlin), Motel (Eddie Doherty), Perchik (Michael Mc Laughlin) and Fyedka (John Collins) present ever-changing challenges to both community and family traditions.

Yente (Marian Hennigan) the local matchmaker and general busy-body adds humour throughout.

With a very strong male and female chorus we have over 80 cast & crew including 20+ children.

As rehearsals progress community spirit in Inishowen is as always evident.

The support received from the community is just tremendous and greatly appreciated.

The production will run in the Colgan Hall, Carndonagh, Co Donegal on 7th & 8th April and 10-13th April 2014.
