A massive crowd is expected to participate in the Mark Farren 5K run which is being held in Killea on Saturday morning.
The 5K is being held to help raise funds for the former Derry City star.
Farren is currently undergoing treatment as he battles a brain illness for the second time after being initially diagnosed with having a benign brain tumour in 2008.
Farren was forced to initially retire from the game in 2010 in the aftermath of the surgery.
However he heroically returned to the game in 2011 and became the all-time leading goal scorer in Derry City’s illustrious history overtaking club legend Liam Coyle in the process.
However during a routine six-monthly brain scan an irregularity was discovered and now Farren has to undergo preventative radiotherapy following exploratory surgery.
A huge crowd is expected to come out in mass numbers to support one of the most popular sportsmen in the North West.
Past and present players from Derry City, Finn Harps and Glenavon are expected to attend the event.
Representatives from the PFAI are also expected to attend.
Registration for the event starts at 9am at the Killea clubhouse and the run starts at 10.30am.
