Derry City’s substitutes were the key to unlocking the Finn Harps defence in this rather scrappy JJ Reid Trophy game at Finn Park this afternoon.
Both sides used the challenge game to blood a number of players.
Derry were on top for most of the game and deserved their 2-1 victory.
Harps keeper Ciaran Gallagher by far the busier of the two net-minders in the opening half and made a number of stops.
Goals by Rory Patterson in the 40th minute and fellow sub Ryan Curran in the 87th minute gave the Candystripes a deserved two goal cushion.
Harps’ Paul McVeigh popped up in injury time to head in from a corner to grab a consolation goal for the home side.
