Fine Gael TD Joe McHugh has tackled the Minister for Health over Regional Hospital status for Letterkenny General Hospital.
Deputy McHugh told James Reilly in the Dail that the hospital was being run like a Regional establishment.
“Letterkenny Hospital is bringing an increasing number of patients through its doors. Our hospital is carrying out more procedures than it used to, and the workloads of Consultants in the hospital are increasing by the month,” said the Donegal TD.
“More patients from outside Co. Donegal are attending Letterkenny Hospital all the time. Minister for Health Dr James Reilly is on the Dail record as expressing an aspiration that Letterkenny would be conferred with Regional Hospital status. This is welcome, but as of yet the extra footfall has not been rewarded.
“Hospitals like Letterkenny should not be discriminated against because of lack or Regional Hospital status. I urge the Government to address this as quickly as possible.”
