We have had a feast of golf in Dunfanaghy this week and with the better weather the course is ripe for some huge scores. This was the case for Mark McHugh who finally got it all together to absolutely cream his way round the Links last weekend.

The Wednesday the Opens continued as usual and Donal Boyle won the gross as usual but off his handicap (around 1) that’s brilliant and well deserved.

First place was won by Padraig Coyle and again Neil McGinley took second place (so more shots for me Neil). Third place was decided on BOT and went to Jim Carey.

Saturday 4BBB saw Kevin Ward and Josie Langan come to the fore with a great score for an easy win. Second place went to Cian McGarvey and Paul Gallagher who just managed to pip Mal Johnston and John Hinds.

Sunday this week was a singles Stroke and for once this did not phase Mark McHugh in the slightest. Mark won this by more than a country mile – probably a Dunfanaghy mile which goes on forever – over his next nearest way back.

Michael Doyle, himself no mean golfer, could only come within 5 shots of Mark but only managed to lift second place on BOT from Peter Ganley. Daniel McColgan won the gross.

Monday Dunfanaghy hosted the St Michael’s Classic and the Foxes were out in force.

Picking up first prize was Michael Crossan, Noel McGinley, Aiden Fox and Brendan Fox. Michael Crossan played very well winning the Longest Drive as well.

Josie Langan and Kevin Ward showed their return to form was not temporary as teaming up with James Brogan and Roger Green sorted out the second place slot.

There was an absolute scramble for third place with Pat Duffy, M Crossan, T Carroll and Mark McHugh (fresh from his Sunday win) just managing to edge out the team of M McCormack, C McCormack, H Shannon and C McStravick on BOT

Ladies Longest Drive went to Mary Lafferty and Nearest the pin went to J S Arthur.

The headlines this week is the great win by 9 year old Conor Cheevers who caused quite a stir when he lifted an Ulster Title in his age category in Ballyliffin last Saturday evening

Conor has worked really had on his game over the last few months both with our resident Profession Seamus McMonagle and John Hanna.

Seamus gives a lot of his time to the juveniles and we can see it starting to have effect.

Conor meanwhile has some very testing golf ahead as next weekend he is off to Portmarnock for the Irish finals.

Conor then goes on to represent Ulster in the European Championships in Gullane in Scotland in which the top 60 Euro Juveniles are playing.

This is great stuff. Best of luck Conor from all at the club

Conor secured second place in the weekly competition earlier on Saturday thanks to a playoff with Seamus Mc Ginley.

There was no catching Kyle Mc Garvey though, who played his usual very steady golf to lift first prize.

The previous weeks winner was Conor Gallagher who pipped Conor Cheevers for first place.

It is hoped to start competitions for Girls on a Saturday mornings in the coming weeks, any girls interested in taking part please contact Brian Dolan 087 6207919.

Usual competitions next week Friday 14 hole and Saturday 4BBB Stableford. Sunday competition is the Monthly Medal Stroke.
