Donegal ladies have exited the All-Ireland championship following a 8 point defeat by Westmeath in their 1st round qualifier this afternoon in Carrick-On-Shannon.
They were defeated on a scoreline of Westmeath 1-15 Donegal 1-07.
Donegal trailed by 5 points at half-time after they were guilty of squandering a huge amount of chances in the final third as they lacked the clinical touch of star forward Geraldine McLaughlin who was unavailable.
Donegal made a super start to the second half scoring a goal through Roisin Curran and then added a point to cut the deficit to a point.
However, Westmeath showed their experience and class by not panicking and were rewarded for their patience when they scored an excellent goal to break the Donegal resolve.
Donegal tried to get themselves back in the match and battled gamely but were unable to claw themselves back in to it as Westmeath pulled away.
It was a brave performance by the young Donegal team but they really missed the quality and presence of star forward Geraldine McLaughlin.
The Donegal men’s Senior team are on next in Carrick-On-Shannon with a throw in time of 5.15 lets hope they can book their place into the All-Ireland quarter finals.
Good luck lads and hard luck ladies you did us proud.
