A 95 year old pensioner has been airlifted from his residence in Falcaragh and taken to Eglinton airport before being driven to nearby Altnagelvin Hospital for treatment.
The pensioner took ill earlier this afternoon and the operation was then launched and Co-ordinated by the Malin Coast Guard to take the elderly man to Altnagelvin Hospital as quickly as possible.
A paramedic travelled with the pensioner as he was flown to Eglinton airport and it is not known what the elderly man was suffering from.
It now seems likely that this type of evacuation could become more regular following the extensive damage done to Letterkenny General Hospital.
It is not yet known how long the Hospital will be closed for but it could be months before it is re-opened.
