Letterkenny Golf Club Ladies Notes
Letterkenny’s Miele team, under the captaincy of Kay Kelly (ably assisted by Maureen Sweeney), fought their way to the Regional Semi-finals against County Sligo Golf Club. In the Miele format, two teams play at home and two away, both commencing at the same time.
A band of loyal supporters made their way to Rosses Point to cheer on the away players and witnessed some very fine golf in horrendous conditions.
At home the two teams survived some dreadful weather, both teams winning their respective matches on the 18th hole.
In RossesPoint there was nearly an hour of torrential rain and a frightening thunder and lightening storm.
Our first team could take no shelter whilst the second team were offered shelter in one of the many tin huts that can be seen dotted around the course – not the safest of options in a lightening storm.
Unfortunately both our teams were beaten in RossesPoint, allowing the opposition win on holes won difference.
Many thanks to all players and panel members of the Miele 2013 campaign – you gave us some courageous golf throughout the competition.
Thanks also to all teams, panel members, captains and their assistants from all our teams this year – you provided all the supporters with some exciting matches throughout the season.
Many opposition clubs have commented about the huge support that follows all Letterkenny teams – it is one of the particularly nice aspects of being part of Letterkenny Golf Club Ladies Club.
At the beginning of the week, Century Cinemas sponsored our Open Competition. Some players experienced some heavy rain but the well supported competition brought in some great scores.
Bridea Gildea secured the only 2, the Front 9 was won by Rena O’Herlihy (21 points), the Back 9 by Tracy Spence (21 points), the Visitor’s prize went to Mairead Harkin (34 points), 3rd was Mary McBride (38 points), Gross was won by Marian O’Sullivan, Runner Up was Ruth Daly (40 points) and the winner was Veronica McAteer with a great 41 points. Congratulations to all.
Our Lady Captain’s outing is being held in Ballyliffin Golf Club at the end of August – please see details on the notice board in the locker room.
Lady Captain Sandra McMonagle’s week of competitions commences on Tuesday next, 6th August.
She has put together a comprehensive week of golf and social activities which will be enjoyed by all.
All details and entry lists are on display in the locker room.
I wish to take this opportunity to wish her well and hope that she enjoys her celebrations.
On behalf of the Lady Captain, the Honorary Treasurer and me, the PRO, I wish to thank Lester Speer, our knight in shining armour! He came to our rescue on the road back from RossesPoint following a puncture.
