Finn Harps have officially announced the signing of Carel Tiofack after he impressed manager Ollie Horgan in two friendly matches against Westport United and Cork City in Galway over the weekend.
The former Ipswich Town trainee joins Finn Harps following spells with Limerick FC last season in the Premier Division and Spanish side Cadiz.
While at Ipswich Town there was speculation Arsene Wenger was interested in taking Tiofack to Arsenal after being impressed with his displays in the FA Youth Cup competition.
Tiofack told the official Finn Harps website that he’s delighted to be at the club and is looking forward to the challenges ahead, he said, “We have a lot of hard work ahead before our first league game but I am really excited about the season ahead.
“On Saturday evening we had a squad meeting with the manager and his coaching staff, and he let us know that we will always aim to be well prepared and professional throughout this season.
“The match against Cork was very competitive, and although I was disappointed we didn’t win, I thought we showed we can play some very good football.
Tiofack acknowledged that with the quality of the squad assembled by Horgan he will have to work hard to make sure he’s in the team every week.
Tiofack said, “I know I will have to work hard to get my place in the team but I am a competitive person and I want to reach my full potential.
“On Sunday I could see we have some very good players so I think Finn Harps fans are going to see some great football this season.
Manager Ollie Horgan is delighted with the capture of Tiofack and admitted he was exactly the type of player he was looking for.
“Carel is an infectious character and he has a lot of ability.
“We want players who are both technically proficient and who aren’t afraid of the physical side of the game.
“Carel is that type of lad and he can definitely be an asset to us this season.
Harps currently have former Schalke 04 player Graham Fisher on trial and former Manchester United trainee Joe Coll.
Both of whom will be hoping to secure a contract before the season kicks off on March the 7th as Harps entertain Waterford United at Finn Park.
