Jason Quigley’s decision to surrender his national title has added further fuel to the speculation he is about to quit the amateur ranks and turn professional.

The news will come as a massive blow to the Irish amateur set-up who viewed Quigley as their best hope of securing a Gold medal at the next Olympics in Rio in 2016.
It had been rumoured that Quigley had been courted by a number of high profile promoters who were offering Quigley lucrative contracts to make the switch.
His decision not to defend his title now makes it even more likely that he will turn professional.
Quigley has no made no secret of his burning ambition to turn professional at some stage in his career and he could make the switch quicker than some would have hoped.
